The Volunteer Program at Second Chance Pet Rescue strives to allow a fulfilling experience to the volunteer while providing necessary assistance to staff at shelter. Volunteers are one of our most valuable resources! With your commitment and assistance we will work together to make the organization successful and give shelter animals much needed love, attention, exercise and socialization! Basic requirements for volunteers:
Have a working email account.
Must be able to commit 4 hours a month in the first 3 months of volunteering.
Mature and respectful attitude to staff, volunteers and animals is required at the shelter at all times.
Support and believe in the mission of SCPR.
*If you are interested in completing Court Ordered Community Service, please find more information below, as that program is separate from our Volunteer Program
How Do I Get Started Helping?
If you would like to volunteer, please contact our office manager. They will schedule a time for you to stop in for a tour and meet the staff. Once we know what you would like to focus on during your volunteer hours, we will pair you with another volunteer to get started.
Can My Work/School/Church Volunteer as a Group?
For more information on group volunteering, or to schedule a visit, please contact our office manager at email@example.com. Include the type of experience you’re interested in, and the number of people in your group. For adult groups (16 years old and up) we will schedule a tour, then split your time among these tasks: cleaning, laundry or special projects. Your visit will conclude spending time with an adoptable animal and answering questions you may have about our organization. For youth groups (7-15 years old) opportunities vary. Email the office manager for information. We are not able to accommodate volunteers under 6. Groups are not able to walk dogs, or work one on one with cats (this requires further training), but we like to end group visits with a little playtime with one of our adoptable dogs when possible! For more information, email our office manager!
I Need Community Service Hours for School. Can I Complete This at Second Chance?
We would love to have you join us at SCPR, and your time spent at our organization will also help you get needed service hours for your school. If you need to complete hours for school, we would love to help you achieve your requirement.
Can I Do Court Ordered Community Service at Second Chance?
Second Chance Pet Rescue is happy to work with members in our community who need to complete Court Ordered Community Service (CS). CS workers offer support to animal caregivers, and assist with sanitation, housekeeping, yardwork and operational needs.
To begin your community service, please visit the shelter and bring court documentation which should include charges, hours needed, and the date you need to complete hours. Wear long pants, close toed shoes and clothes that you don't mind getting dirty.
**We cannot accommodate individuals with felony charges, charges related to sexual misconduct, assault, theft, or animal related offenses. We only accept Court Ordered Community Service for individuals 18 years old or older; if you are between 16-18 you may perform community service with accompaniment of a parent of guardian.
